Taliban group commander gives up fighting in Afghanistan

A Taliban group commander along with two of his bodyguards laid down arms and gave up fighting in the eastern Ghazni province, a local news agency, Afghan Vice Agency (AVA) reported Thursday.

Without identifying the name of the former dissident commander, the news agency added that the commander also handed over two pieces of AK-47 assault rifles to police in the provincial capital the Ghazni city.

Welcoming the former guerrilla commander, Ghazni's provincial governor Mohammad Aman Hamimi called upon Taliban fighters to give up fighting and resume normal life with their communities.

Taliban militants haven't commented. Enditem
