President Ghani visits northern Kunduz city to inspect situation

Xinhua, November 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited the northern Kunduz city to inspect the situation there following the eviction of Taliban militants from the city, on Thursday.

Accompanied by several ministers, president Ghani during his stay in Kunduz would hold meeting with elders of local communities and provincial officials to listen to their demands and suggestion on how to improve security situation and guarantee lasting peace in the province, local officials and media outlets said.

Taliban militants captured Kunduz city in early October which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of families. However, the security forces after launching counter-offensive recaptured the city in mid October and since then the troops have been chasing the militants in their hideouts elsewhere in the province to ensure durable peace there.

Following the short fall of Kunduz city to the Taliban outfit, President Ghani appointed a fact-finding mission to investigate the reason for the setback.

The investigation of the mission revealed that negligence of key government officials had contributed to the fall of the important Kunduz city to Taliban militants. Enditem
