Olympician Devtzis tested positive for banned substance

Xinhua, November 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Greece's Athletics Federation (SEGAS) announced on Wednesday that Greek authorities were formally notified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) that Greek veteran athlete Pigi Devetzis was tested positive for a banned substance.

The sample from the triple jumper, who won a silver medal in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Games, among others, was taken in 2007, according to the press release.

In 2007, Devetzis won a bronze medal in the World Championships in Osaka, Japan.

The athlete retired after IAAF gave her a two year ban from taking part in tournaments after her refusal to submit a sample to anti-doping controllers in May 2009 in Ukraine. Endit
