Nicaragua to play soccer friendly matches with Cuba

Xinhua, November 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nicaragua's national soccer team began training on Monday ahead of upcoming friendly matches against Switzerland's Bern on Dec. 2 and two games against Cuba's national team on Dec. 8 and 11.

According to Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, the Nicaraguan Football Federation (Fenifut) issued a press release informing that coach Henry Duarte called upon 25 players for the short training cycle to be held from Monday to Wednesday.

The players began the Monday training at 10 am in Julio de Diriamba Talent School, located in the southern Caraza department.

Currently the biggest talking point among fans is the presence of a player from Nicaragua's second division. Jason Telemaco, an 18-year-old defender who currently plays for Real Esteli and has played for the national team's Under-17 side in the past but may see his first match with the adult side in the coming weeks.

One of the matches against Cuba is scheduled to be played in Managua's National Stadium, while the second game may be held in Esteli city (north) or Diriamba (south), Fenifut's spokesman Moises Avalos told Prensa Latina several days ago.

Nicaragua came close to qualifying in the third stage of the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) qualifiers towards Russia 2018. Nicaragua defeated Jamaica 3-2 in the first leg but later lost 0-2 in the second. Endi
