Xinhua, November 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Harambee Stars of Kenya have kicked started their defense of the regional Council for Eastern and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) Senior Challenge Cup in style with a 2-0 win over Uganda on Sunday.

The team handled by Englishman Bobby Williamson scored in each half to make sure Kenya top Group B of the competition which started on Saturday.

Jacob Keli scored in the 29th minute before substitute Michael Olunga made it 2-0 after 48 minutes.

Ugandan skipper Farouk Miya had his shot hit the bar, while Caesar Okuthi also missed chances.

"This is a very good win because we have start the tournament with a victory," said Williamson, the ex-coach of Uganda Cranes. The Englishman won the Cecafa regional title as coach of Uganda in 2012.

In an earlier game Tanzania humbled Somalia 4-0 in a Group A game. John Bocco and Elias Maguli netted a brace each to make sure Tanzania top the group.

The tournament started on Saturday with Burundi beating Zanzibar 1-0, while Rwanda also upset hosts Ethiopia 1-0 in the second game played at the Addis Ababa National Stadium.

On Monday action shifts to Bahir Dar where South Sudan take on Djibouti and guest side Malawi battle Sudan in Group C ties. Endi
