China's newly crowned world champion Yu Song beat her teammate Ma Sisi to win the women's over 78-kilogram category title at the World Judo Grand Prix Qingdao here on Sunday.
It took the current world No. 1 fully four minutes to win by decision. Ma, the world No. 2 and fifth at World Championships, received two warnings due to negative competition, while Yu received one.
"I expected the title before the competition," said Yu, a Qingdao native. "I made full preparation and I wanted to win at home."
"No matter which one of us go to the Rio Olympic Games, our aim is to show the world that China is the best in the category," she added.
According to the rules, only one of them can take part in the Rio Olympic Games.
"I hope I can show my strength at the Olympic Games as I did in the World Championships," Yu said.
China finished with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Qingdao Grand Prix. Yang Junxia won the women's -63kg category title on Saturday.
Also on Sunday, Japan's Hamada Shori claimed the women's -78kg category gold and Nagasaki Kenta triumphed in the men's -90kg category. Mongolia's T. Naidan dominated the men's -100kg category. French Teddy Riner topped the men's +100kg category. Endi
