Xinhua, November 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least three Paramilitary troops were killed while stopping suspected militants from entering a mosque in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Friday, officials said.

Major General Bilal Akbar, director general of the paramilitary forces Rangers, said that the militants opened fire when the troops stopped them from entering the mosque, and fled the scene on their motorbikes.

The incident happened when over 200 people were gathering for Friday noon prayers inside a mosque at Ittehad Town area of Karachi, the capital city of the country's south Sindh province.

Two Rangers personnel died at the spot while the third succumbed to injuries later at a local hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed authorities to arrest the militants and bring them to justice.

A search operation has kicked off in the area. Enditem
