1st LD: Suicide bombing kills 5 in Iraq's Baghdad

Xinhua, November 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least five people were killed and 22 others injured in a suicide bomb attack near a Shiite mosque south of Iraqi capital Baghdad on Friday, an Iraqi police source told Xinhua.

The bomb exploded near a Shiite shrine in the Yusufiyah area, 20 km south of Baghdad, just as worshippers were finishing Friday prayers.

The source said the initial death toll can be increased.

The attack occurred a week before Shiites commemorate the death of Imam Hussein, one of the twelve Imams in Shiite.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. Terrorism and violence have left at least 12,282 civilians dead and 23,126 others injured in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the flare-up of sectarian violence in 2006-2007, according to a recent UN report. Endit
