A knife-wielding Palestinian on a stabbing spree killed two Israeli men and injured another at a chapel on Tel Aviv's seafront on Thursday.
Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank Dura, a village in southwest of Hebron. His name was not immediately released, but Channel 2 TV news reported he had no previous record of involvement in acts of terror.
He started his stabbing spree as he arrived outside a room used for afternoon prayers on the second floor of the Panorama Building, an office building on Tel Aviv's coast.
He stabbed an ultra-Orthodox man and another civilian, killing one of the victims on the spot while the other died shortly later in hospital, said police spokeswoman Luba Samri. The stabber then moved to the ground floor, moderately wounding a 50-year-old civilian, she added.
Civilians at the scene caught the attacker and held him down until the police arrived, Samri said. A spokesperson for Israel's medical teams said the attacker was wounded, apparently by angry civilians, and is in a light-to-moderate condition. He was taken under police custody.
The incident was the latest in the two-month-long wave of violence in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza, which so far has claimed the lives of more than 80 Palestinians and 16 Israelis. Endit
