Indonesian police, French intelligence join hands to probe IS network

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesian national police will cooperate with French intelligence to uncover networks of Islamic State (IS) militants who conducted attack in Paris last Friday that killed 132, Indonesian police chief said here Thursday.

National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti made the statement following reports that one of the attackers used to visit a boarding school in West Java of Indonesia and some other suspicious Frenchmen had visited Indonesia.

Badrodin said he would investigate the involvement or link of the visits of Frenchmen to Indonesia.

"I must check it through intelligence in Indonesia and in Paris. Coordination (with French intelligence) can be conducted directly or through our mission office there," he said at the security chief ministry.

"We must probe deeply, because some of the Frenchmen used to come into Indonesia, Batam Island and Bandung (provincial capital of West Java)," Badrodin added.

Metro television footage on Thursday showed that a leader of a boarding school in West Java said one of the attackers at the Paris attack used to visit the school.

Indonesia has taken precaution against the threat of the IS group, including taking stern action against recruitment for the group, strengthening checking at the borders for those willing to enter Indonesia. Endit
