Nadal beats Murray to reach last four at ATP Finals

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

World No. 2 Andy Murray was defeated by Rafael Nadal in their second group match at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena here on Wednesday.

Nadal, ranked 5th in the world, took one hour and 31 minutes to win 6-4, 6-1.

After Stan Wawrinka, who replaced him to win the French Open champion, had beaten David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2 in the late match, Nadal secured his place in the semifinals.

Murray will still advance to the last four should he beat Wawrinka in his last group match on Friday.

"This is an important victory," Nadal said. "I have a big day against a great player on a tough surface."

He added, "Today I feel free. I feel I'm enjoying it on court."

Murray said, "He was hitting the ball extremely well from the back of the court, but I didn't really help myself.

"I served poorly at the end of the first set and all through the second. That's not going to be good enough against him when he's playing that well."

"I served an extremely low percentage of first serves (43%), maybe the lowest percentage I have served the whole year in any match," said Murray. Endi
