New Polish gov't wins parliament approval

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Polish government headed by Beata Szydlo obtained a vote of confidence from the parliament on Wednesday evening.

The vote of confidence was supported by 236 out of 456 members of Parliament who took part in voting.

Earlier the day, the new Prime Minister delivered her inauguration speech, presenting main tasks for her cabinet, including goals, which are to be reached within the first 100 days since taking over the power.

Szydlo said the government's top priority will be the security of the Poles and development of the country. Another priority is boosting the economy, especially in the fields of investment and innovation. She also enumerated a series of social policies, including raising minimum hour rate and lowering the retirement age.

The speech was followed by a discussion between respective parties, after which the voting took place.

On Monday, Nov. 16, Szydlo and her government were sworn in. However, the new prime minister still had to obtain the vote of confidence from the government and make her inauguration speech within two weeks in order to make the government legal.

The Law and Justice party won Poland's parliamentary election on Oct. 27, taking 235 seats in the 460-seat Sejm, or lower house of the Polish Parliament. Enditem
