Mexican Senate, China's Xinhua News Agency to set up cooperation mechanism

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

The television channel of the Mexican Senate and China's Xinhua News Agency have agreed to establish a cooperation mechanism, Roberto Gil Zuarth, president of the Senate, said Tuesday.

"It is very important for Mexico to know what is happening in China through the state news agency," the Mexican top legislator said during a meeting with He Ping, Xinhua's editor-in-chief, on Tuesday.

"It makes us very happy to deepen our friendship and to build a constructive partnership between the Senate and Xinhua," Zuarth said.

Zuarth said the Senate would be active in strengthening political and economic ties between Mexico and China, noting that the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Mexican counterpart Enrique Pena Nieto on the sidelines of the summit of the Group of 20 in Turkey on Monday "showed the strong links...between the two countries."

Zuarth praised Xinhua's investment in digital technology as a "superb means of communications through which China could understand Mexico's structural reforms, such as those for energy and telecommunications."

For his part, He, the editor-in-chief, praised the new cooperation mechanism, saying that China "paid close attention to the development of relations with Mexico...not only in politics and economics but in other areas as well."

"While there is a big geographical distance between China and Mexico, this has not prevented us from boosting our friendly ties and exchanges in diverse areas," He said.

Furthermore, the Xinhua editor-in-chief said the meeting between Xi and Nieto showed that both countries recognize their global influence and wish to work together to take concrete actions.

"This means that both sides are ready to deepen ties and work on areas of common interests and of mutual benefit to both people," He said.

Finally, He said that Xinhua would pay special attention to exchanges between the Mexican Senate and China's National People's Congress, so that both countries could learn from Mexico's structural reforms and China's 13th Five-Year Plan. Endi
