Tokyo stocks edge up as concerns over terror attacks dampen upbeat sentiment

Tokyo shares ended Wednesday slightly higher as fresh concerns over terrorist attacks dampened an earlier boost of market confidence from gains in most overseas equity markets overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 18.55 points, or 0.09 percent, from Tuesday at 19,649.18.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.42 point, or 0.03 percent, higher at 1,586.53.

Gainers were led by financing business and real estate issues, while insurance and utilities led decliners.

The turnover was about 2,252.3 billion yen (about 18.26 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
