Philippines, Mexico sign three cooperation agreements

The Philippines and Mexico signed three agreements on Tuesday following a meeting between President Benigno S. Aquino III and his Mexican counterpart Enrique Pena Nieto.

Aquino welcomed Nieto at the presidential palace for a state visit. The Mexican leader will also attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in the Philippine capital.

Philippine Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and Mexican Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas inked an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and prevention of fiscal evasion.

Also signed was a memorandum of understanding concerning cooperation on combating illicit traffic in narcotics drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues, precursor chemicals and essential chemical products, as well as products or preparations containing them between Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. and Salinas.

Philippine Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. and Salinas also signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation between the two countries. Endit
