14 killed, 50 injured in 2 road mishaps in central India

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 14 people had been killed and 50 others injured in two road mishaps in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official said Tuesday.

"The first mishap happened Monday when a bus, carrying 50 passengers, plunged into a gorge in the state's Satna district, after the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle," he said.

While seven people were killed on the spot, 36 injured had been admitted to a hospital where the condition of some are said to be critical, the official added.

The second incident happened on the same day when a car collided with a passenger bus on a national highway near Gunawat in the state's Dhar district.

"Some seven people were killed in the mishap and they were all occupants of the car, while 14 were injured and they were all passengers of the bus," the official said.

Police have booked a contractor, who has been carrying out repair work on the highway, for failing to put up proper signage in the area, which led to the mishaps.

Separate probes have been ordered into the incidents, the official added. Endit
