Tokyo stocks booked sharp gains Tuesday morning as investor sentiment turned positive following overseas bourses rising overnight and geopolitical concerns in the wake of the Paris terror attacks continuing to subside sent the yen lower versus the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 312.76 points, or 1.61 percent, from Monday to end the morning at 19,706.45, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 20.81 points, or 1.32 percent, to finish the morning at 1,592.34.

Notable gainers by the break comprised iron and steel, mining and oil, and coal-related issues. Endit
