Uruguay and Chile prepare for World Cup qualifier

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uruguay and Chile will face each other on Tuesday in Uruguay's capital city of Montevideo for the fourth fixture in the World Cup Russia 2018 South America Qualifiers.

Chile is currently in second place in the group with seven points after their 1-1 draw at home against Colombia on November 12, according to the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).

Uruguay is currently in third place with six points after their 2-1 defeat to Ecuador.

The match will have an additional attraction, the duel between Uruguay's Edinson Cavani and Chile's Gonzalo Jara who were involved in one of the most memorable controversies during the Copa America tournament in July. Chile, the tournament's hosts, later went on to win the competition for the first time.

During the quarter-finals, Jara touched Cavani's backside and Cavani responded by hitting the Chilean which led to the Uruguayan being sent off.

Uruguay's coach Oscar Tabarez refused to get involved in the controversy surrounding the two players on Sunday after saying that the basic objective for Tuesday's match is to beat Chile.

The Uruguayan public bought up all the 50,000 allocated tickets in the Centenario Stadium weeks ago.

The last time Uruguay met Chile on home turf was in 2011 and it ended well for Uruguay as they won 4-0.

Tabarez final eleven for Tuesday is thought to comprise Fernando Muslera, Maximiliano Pereira, Diego Godin, Sebastian Coates, Martin Caceres, Carlos Sanchez, Egidio Arevalo Rios, Matias Corujo, Alvaro Pereira, Diego Rolan and Edinson Cavani.

Chile's coach Jorge Sampaoli is rumored to be using the same team that won 4-3 against Peru in Lima in October.

The Copa America champion side are expected to start with Claudio Bravo, Mauricio Isla, Gonzalo Jara, Gary Medel, Eugenio Mena, Arturo Vidal, Marcelo Diaz, Jorge Valdivia, Alexis Sanchez, Eduardo Vargas and Mark Gonzalez at the Centenario Stadium.

The duel will kick off at 20:00 local time (23:00 GMT) and the referee is scheduled to be Wilmar Roldan (Colombia). Endit
