Two of the seven people arrested in Brussels over the weekend in connection with the Paris massacre have been charged with participating in a terrorist attack, the Belgian federal prosecutor announced on Monday.

Prosecutor Jean-Pascal Thoreau told reporters that the two face charges of leading a terrorist attack and taking part in the activities of a terrorist organization. They have not been named.

Thoreau said Belgian authorities had been co-operating with French counterparts since Friday evening, when they receive four specific requests for help relating to a Belgian-registered car found near the scene of the Bataclan shooting in Paris.

Belgian public broadcaster RTBF said the prosecutor confirmed that the five other people arrested at the weekend had been freed.

The lawyer for Mohamed Abdeslam, the brother of two of the suspects in the Paris attacks, confirmed earlier on Monday that her client had been freed without charge. Enditem
