Xinhua, November 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda have qualified for the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after defeating Togo 3-0 on Sunday.

Farouk Miya netted a brace while Geoffrey Massa also got his name on the score sheet to make sure the home side qualify for qualification group stage in front of their fans at the Mandela National Stadium.

Skipper Massa netted an early goal after four minutes when he made no mistake capitalizing on a well taken Tony Mawejje cross and shot the ball past the Togolese goalkeeper N'Guissan Djehani.

The visitors tried to settle after conceding the early goal but still failed to bother Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.

Massa had his free kick parried back by the Togolese goalkeeper after 33 minutes.

Uganda replaced injured Khalid Aucho with Geoffrey Kizito, while Togo also brought on Meme Placca Fessou for skipper Serge Akakpo.

In the 41st minute, Geoffrey Walusimbi provided for Miya who scored to make it 2-0. The SC Vipers attacking midfielder got his name on the score sheet again at the stroke of half time when he volleyed in a Massa cross.

After the interval, Uganda playing with lots of confidence played a less attacking game as the Togo team tried to fight back to get goals but failed.

Uganda qualified for the group stage on a 4-0 goal aggregate since they also won the first leg 1-0.

"This has been a very disappointing outing for us," Togo coach Tom Saintfiet said after the game.  Endi
