Xinjiang and Sichuan continued their prefect run in the 2015 season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Friday, while powerhouses Liaoning suffered their first defeat of this season.
Xinjiang beat Zhejiang 109-100 on the road to hold onto the joint lead in the team standings with underdogs Sichuan, who routed Shanxi 117-98 Friday night for their fifth straight victory.
Former NBA star Andray Blatche had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead six Xinjiang players in double-digit scores. Li Gen, Xinjiang's major signing for this season, scored 10 points. Zhou Qi, a 19-year-old rising star, added 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Zhejiang guard Willie Warren scored a game-high 36 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists. Charles Gaines added 17 points.
Sichuan, which won just eight games last season, were the other unbeaten team after five rounds.
Hosting Shanxi at home, Sichuan set up a 20-point advantage after two quarters. The visitors fought hard in the second half, but Sichuan shooters seemed invincible by keeping the margin above 20 points late into the final quarter.
Sichuan made full use of their big size, out-rebounding their opponent 61-36. Hamed Haddadi finished with 26 points and 22 rebounds. Mike Harris added 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Last season's CBA runners-up Liaoning led for most of the game against Fujian, but a poor play in the fourth period cost them a 5-game winning streak. Fujian won 102-100.
Fujian's Lebanon veteran Fadi Khatib made five three-pointers to record 31 points. Point guard Dwight Buycks almost finished "triple-double" by collecting 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury scored 31 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out 11 assists to lead defending champions Beijing past Shandong 112-103.
Beijing, who won three CBA titles in the past four years, are now 2-2 to rank the sixth in the 20-team league.
In Friday's other games, Shenzhen edged Jilin 102-97, Shanghai overwhelmed Foshan 97-78, Guangdong defeated Qingdao 118-104, Guangsha beat Jiangshu 115-103, Bayi downed Tianjin 95-87, Tongxi beat Aolong 94-89. Endi
