Japan names new roster of ambassadors to countries including Russia, Germany, India

The Japanese government on Friday announced some changes to its roster of ambassadors and consul generals, including those to be posted in Russia, Germany and India.

Takeshi Yagi, who has served as as ambassador to India and Bhutan, will be transferred to Germany to assume his post as ambassador there, and Toyohisa Kozuki, former director general of the Foreign Ministry's European Affairs Bureau, will become ambassador to Russia, the government said.

Kenji Hiramatsu, who headed the Foreign Ministry's Foreign Policy Bureau, will assume a new role as envoy to India, while Koji Tomita, who was in charge of the North American Affairs Bureau, will become ambassador to Israel, it has also been confirmed.

Among other envoys named, the majority of whom will see their appointments begin on Nov. 19, Kyoko Koga, who has served as Japan's consul general in Milan, will assume the post of ambassador to Bolivia.

The Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau's former director general, Junichi Ihara, has been named as head of the the permanent mission of Japan to the international organizations in Geneva, officials confirmed Friday, while Yoko Yanagisawa, consul general in Brisbane, was named as ambassador to Estonia.
