Singapore stocks close 0.54 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 16.13 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 2,981.59.

A total of 1.22 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 986.6 million Singapore dollars (694.2 million U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 301 to 137, while 495 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 12.75 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 2,997.72 on Monday. The stock market was closed on Tuesday due to Deepavali, public holiday in Singapore. Enditem
