Tevez set to miss World Cup qualifiers

Xinhua, November 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Argentina are set to be without influential forward Carlos Tevez for their World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia, according to local media reports.

The 31-year-old Boca Juniors star has a left knee injury and will join fellow attackers Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero on the sidelines, the Clarin newspaper reported.

Despite injuries to their three biggest attacking threats, Argentina coach Gerardo Martino can still count on in-form Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain and Paris Saint-Germain frontmen Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di Maria.

Argentina are currently seventh in the South American zone standings with just one point from their first two matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Martino's team will host Brazil at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires on Thursday before facing Colombia in Barranquilla five days later. Endit
