Eusebio named as Moyes' replacement at Real Sociedad

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish BBVA Primera Liga club Real Sociedad have appointed former Barcelona B-team coach Eusebio Sacristan as the replacement for David Moyes, who was sacked on Monday.

The Basque club wasted little time in naming Sacristan, who was sacked on Monday after a poor start to the season had seen the side from San Sebastian accumulate just nine points from their opening 11 games of the season.

51-year-old Eusebio, who as a player is best known for his part in Johann Cruyff's 'Dream Team' at Barcelona, worked on the technical staff at the club, before coaching Celta Vigo, who were then in the Spanish second division.

He then spent three years with Barcelona's B-team before being sacked towards the end of last season as the side slipped to relegation to the third tier, Segunda B.

As a result this will be the first time he has coached in the Primera Liga and despite the task at hand, he was optimistic.

"It is an honor to be able to coach this club," he said at his presentation, adding that despite the side was struggling just above the relegation zone, "it has the capacity to go a long way."

He insisted he knew everything there was to know about the club and the players and promised to "work in order to get the level of intensity, demand and effort that is needed."

Eusebio will have two weeks before making his debut in the Real Sociedad dugout, but faces a baptism of fire as his side first of all entertains Sevilla in the Anoeta Stadium before travelling to the Camp Nou to face his former club, FC Barcelona. Endi
