China voices support for 2nd Vienna meeting on Syria crisis

Xinhua, November 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

China on Monday voiced support for the second Vienna meeting on the Syria crisis and called for concerted efforts to fight terrorism.

"China supports the second Vienna meeting which will be held on Nov. 14 to further promote political solutions to Syria crisis," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said Monday at a daily press briefing.

The previous Vienna meeting, held on Oct. 30, was the first of its kind when the five permanent members of the UN Security Council sat together with regional countries to discuss political solutions to Syria crisis, according to Hong.

A number of consensuses, including fighting against the Islamic States (IS) and other forces of terrorism, were reached during the meeting.

"Anti-terrorism actions from all sides should be united," Hong said, calling for a full play of the United Nations' coordinated role and abandonment of "double standards" such as connecting terrorism to a particular race or religion. Endit
