Undersea quake measuring 6.0 Richter scale jolted North Sumatra province of Indonesia on Sunday, but there were no tsunami alert issued or initial report of damages or casualty, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.

The quake struck at 16 : 34 p.m. Jakarta time (0934 GMT) with epicenter at 85 km southwest Mandailing Natal of the province and with the depth at 96 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 to 4 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) at Mandailing Natal, 2 MMI in Samosir Island, Tapanuli Selatan and Padang city, capital of nearby West Sumatra province, the official said.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the quake at 6.1 on the Richter scale.
