The upgrading work of Yangon International Airport will be completed by 2017, sources with the civil aviation department said Saturday.

The construction of some infrastructures at the airport will finish in the coming year, the department said.

Under a three-year plan, Yangon Aerodrome Co.,Ltd has been carrying out the airport's infrastructural development since 2014.

Upon completion, it will become an international airport which can handle tourist arrivals of 20 million a year.

At present, Myanmar's largest Hanthawaddy international airport in Bago region is under construction and it will be commissioned into service by 2022.

Myanmar has three international airports in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw and more than 30 domestic airports across the nation. Enditem
