Kyrgyz president approves appointment of prime minister

Xinhua, November 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev on Thursday signed a bill on the appointment of Temir Sariyev as prime minister and his cabinet members, according to the presidential press service.

The bill was presented by the Kyrgyz parliament which earlier in the day approved unanimously the nomination of Temir Sariyev as prime minister, and his new cabinet line-up.

Temir Sariyev, nominated as the single candidate for the job, proposed a lean cabinet where the number of deputy prime ministers was reduced to three from four, and the number of ministries decreased from 15 to 12.

The Defense Ministry and the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Youth will be transformed into the state committees for defense and service of migration and employment.

The function of Energy and Industry Ministry will be transferred to Ministry of Economy and Industry.

Parties supporting Atambayev formed a majority coalition on Monday after securing a majority in elections last month. As customary, the new ruling coalition dismiss the incumbent cabinet.

Sariyev has held the position for six months under the previous legislature. He was sworn in on May 6, two weeks after former Prime Minister Joomart Otorbayev announced his resignation. Endit
