Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.01 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks fell 2.53 points, or 0.01 percent, to close on Thursday at 23,051.04.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,960.62 and 23,180.27. Turnover totaled 84.26 billion HK dollars (10.83 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index moved up 56.93 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 10,617.67 points.

Three sub-indices lost ground, with the Properties sub-index falling the most by 0.91 percent, followed by the Utilities 0.63 percent and the Commerce and Industry 0.31 percent. The Finance rose 0.54 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 1.9 percent to 61.95 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, slid 0.9 percent to close at 29.15 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX gained 0.3 percent to 209.80 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, went up 0.3 percent to 95.25 HK dollars. China Unicom, another Chinese telecom giant, climbed 6.0 percent to 10.12 HK dollars.

Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, closed flat at 100.07 HK dollars. Henderson Land also ended flat at 50.15 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks ended mixed. Bank of China went up 0.6 percent to 3.65 HK dollars. China Construction Bank lost 0.2 percent to 5.72 HK dollars. ICBC decreased 0.2 percent to 4.97 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec moved down 0.4 percent to 5.67 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, retreated 0.8 percent to 6.19 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar = 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
