The UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) continues to report ongoing tensions in the national capital of Bangui, according to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

"Today, in the capital's 8th district, suspected anti-Balaka combatants attacked a commercial convoy being escorted by the Mission on three separate occasions," Dujarric said at a daily news briefing held here Wednesday. "A civilian driver and two peacekeepers have been wounded and one of the peacekeepers is reported to be in critical condition." (UN-CAR-Tensions)

BUDAPEST -- The Seventh World Science Forum on Wednesday opened in Budapest to more than 900 participants from over 100 countries.

Themed "The Enabling Power of Science," the event focused on a more responsible and ethical use of science in addressing environmental and health challenges. WASHINGTON -- The latest U.S. intelligence suggests that the crash of a Russian passenger plane in Egypt was most likely caused by a bomb planted by the terror group Islamic State (IS) or its affiliate, U.S. cable news network CNN reported Wednesday.

A U.S. official quoted by CNN said: "There is a definite feeling it was an explosive device planted in luggage or somewhere on the plane." (U.S.-Russia Plane Crash-IS Bomb)

WASHINGTON -- The White House on Wednesday said that President Barack Obama will use "every element of his authority" to push forward the closing of the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, if Congress does not cooperate in this regard.

"What I'm simply doing is suggesting we would like to work with Congress where we can, but if Congress continues to refuse, I wouldn't rule out the President using every element of his authority to make progress," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters at a daily news briefing here Wednesday. MANAMA -- Bahrain's security authorities have in a major counterterrorism operation arrested a total of 47 people who are believe to have links to terror outfits in Iran, official sources said on Wednesday.

According to the authorities, they also seized many high-grade explosives, bomb making materials and weapons from several locations within populated residential areas, and discovered a bomb-making facility and an explosive laboratory.(Bahrain-Iran-Terror) Endit
