The 10th ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Conference, themed "Together We Thrive as Friends, Together We Share Peace and Prosperity," opened here on Wednesday.

The three-day conference includes the China-ASEAN forum, China and other ASEAN cultural exchange and exhibition.

Representatives of the government of China and the 10 ASEAN countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, the 10 ASEAN countries and friendly organizations, local business association representatives, entrepreneurs, experts and scholars participated in the conference.

Gu Xiulian, president of the China-ASEAN Association, said the 10+1 cooperation mechanism folk from small to large, from single to multiple, from bilateral to multilateral, has grown into robust trees. The 10-year history is a milestone, but also a new starting point. She hoped China and ASEAN will continue to enhance their civil trust, saying that consolidating traditional friendship is our common goal and both sides will make efforts to maintain China-ASEAN peaceful coexistence, prosperity and stability in the region.

For his part, AKP Mochtan, deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, said "ASEAN-China relation is undoubtedly the nexus of ASEAN's external relations. We have long strategic partnership. Trade, investment and financial ties between ASEAN and China are so deeply intertwined that both sides are interdependent on one another. We are seeing new initiatives for the betterment of the region unfolding. We are also witnessing new dynamics evolving. In sum, our region is indeed exciting. It is full of opportunities and hopes, yet at the same time precarious and susceptible to instability and tension if we don't manage our relations well."

"With the 10 years of experience being together, I am confident that this ASEAN-China people-to-people friendship platform has the leadership and wisdom to strengthen ASEAN-China relations and to realize our common aspirations that "Together We Thrive as Friends, Together We Share Peace and Prosperity," said Mochtan.

So far, the ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Conference had been held in China, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Enditem
