A cop has been killed and six others were injured in two separate attacks on police, Bangladesh authorities said on Wednesday.
Nazmul Hassan, assistant superintendent of Ashulia Police, told journalists that constable Mukul Hossain, 23, of Bangladesh's Industrial was stabbed to death at Ashulia on the outskirts of capital Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
He said another constable Nur-e-Alam was injured in the attack.
Hassan said a group of about seven people, riding three motorbikes, swooped on the policemen with sharp weapons when they were patrolling on an Ashulia highway.
In another attack in Brahmanbaria district, some 109 east of Dhaka, five cops were reportedly injured on Tuesday night.
Miscreants opened fire on a police van in the district on Tuesday night while it fell into a roadside ditch, leaving five cops injured.
Earlier on Oct. 21 night a police sub-inspector was stabbed to death by miscreants also at a check post in Gabtoli area of Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The killing of two foreigners and a secular publisher-blogger recently prompted tight security measures in capital Dhaka.
Checkpoints have also been set up on various roads and streets in capital Dhaka and in other main cities and towns in the country.
It was not known immediately whether the miscreants belong to an organized terror group. Endit
