3 attackers on Cambodian lawmakers appear in court

Xinhua, November 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian police on Wednesday morning sent three men suspected of assaulting two opposition lawmakers to a city court for inquiry.

The suspects have been questioned by Phnom Penh Municipal Court's deputy prosecutor Meas Chanpiseth as of Wednesday afternoon.

Interior Ministry spokesman Gen. Khieu Sopheak said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects turned themselves into the police on Tuesday afternoon and confessed to the attack.

Opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) lawmakers Nhay Chamroeun and Kong Sakphea were dragged from their cars while leaving the parliament and assaulted on Oct. 26 by a group of people, just an hour after pro-government protesters held a rally against CNRP deputy leader Kem Sokha.

The two injured lawmakers are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Bangkok. Enditem
