U.S. baseball university team to visit Cuba

Xinhua, November 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

The baseball team of United States' Penn State University, the Nittany Lions, will visit Cuba at the end of November to play against Cuban teams from the National Series, Cuban news agency Prensa Latina reported on Tuesday.

Prensa Latina cited U.S. daily Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and said the trip is part of the team's pre-season, adding that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) allows the U.S. teams to hold a tour once every four years.

The Nittany Lions' coach, Rob Cooper, said the trip will be possible thanks to the collaboration between Penn State University and the Cuban Center for Studies on Jose Marti located in Havana.

Nitanny Lions will be the first U.S. team to play against the teams from Cuba's National Series. The American team will travel to Cuba during the Thanksgiving Day holiday week (From Nov. 23 to 29), using academic visa.

The trip will include four baseball games, conferences and seminars, added Prensa Latina.

According to the schedule, two games will be held in Havana against Industriales at Latin American Stadium, and the other two will be against the teams from Pinar del Rio and Matanzas. Endi
