Cambodia's National Assembly President Heng Samrin met with Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover here on Tuesday, with both sides pledging to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation, a spokesman said.

"Both sides agreed that the legislative bodies of the two countries should strengthen cooperation in bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the benefits of the two countries and peoples,"Keo Piseth, a spokesman for Samrin, told reporters after the meeting.

Samrin said Kover's visit was vital to promote friendly relations, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries and asked him to help encourage Hungarian investors and tourists to Cambodia.

He also informed the guest about the current economic and political situation in Cambodia.

For his part, Kover said it was his first trip to Cambodia and praised the country for its political stability and robust economic growth, according to the spokesman.

"Kover said Hungary was willing to strengthen and expand relations with Cambodia in economics, trade, investment and tourism," he said, adding that the speaker also unveiled that Hungary would open its trade office in Phnom Penh at the end of this year.

Kover led a parliamentary delegation to visit Cambodia from Nov. 3 to 8 in order to promote bilateral ties and cooperation, according to a statement from the Cambodia's National Assembly.

During his stay, he is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Senate President Say Chhum and Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Besides, he will visit the National Museum and the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh before sightseeing the famed Angkor Wat Temple in northwestern Siem Reap province. Endit
