Over 150 Myanmar fishermen repatriated from India

Xinhua, November 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

More than 150 Myanmar fishermen who were detained for illegally entering Indian waters, were repatriated from India, official media reported Tuesday.

Myanmar officials brought back 158 fishermen, the first batch of a total of 243, from India's Port Blair by charter flight on Monday, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar.

The remaining 85 fishermen will be brought back to Myanmar on Tuesday.

They were detained by Indian navy while drifting in Indian territorial waters as their fishing boats were hit by storm and broke down.

Meanwhile, 215 Myanmar fishermen out of 443, who had been stranded in Indonesia's Ambon Island, had returned home last month, with the rest to follow later. Enditem
