Communist party leader elected as Nepal's vice president

Nanda Bahadur Pun, standing committee member of the United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), was elected as the vice president of the Himalayan country on Saturday.
Pun, born in Rangsi village of Rolpa District in mid-western Nepal, is better known as Nanda Kishor Pun "Pasang." The 50-year-old won the election with 325 votes while his rival Nepali Congress candidate Amiya Kumar Yadav received 212 votes.
Speaker of Nepal's Parliament Onsari Gharti Magar announced the vice presidential election results during a Parliament session.
Pun replaced Paramanand Jha, who was elected as country's first vice president on July 23, 2008.
Pun joined politics in 1990 and played a vital role in the integration of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatants into the National Army in the capacity of the deputy commander of the PLA. Enditem
