Seven people were wounded Saturday in a grenade attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The grenade attack was carried out at Anantnag town, about 56 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Suspected militants today threw a grenade towards a military vehicle in Anantnag town, which missed the target and exploded on road resulting in wounding seven people," a police officer said. "All the wounded persons are civilians."
Eyewitnesses said the wounded were immediately sent to hospital.
"We have received seven patients, who have suffered splinter wounds in today's grenade blast," a health official of the hospital said. "All the wounded are stable."
The military vehicle was passing through the road, when it came under attack, locals said.
Following the attack, contingents of Indian police and paramilitary were rushed to the spot in a bid to nab assailants.
No one has claimed responsibility for this attack, which triggered panic in the town.
Militants occasionally target Indian police and troopers in the region.
A guerilla war has been going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. Enditem
