Five companies offer to supply new passenger trains to Latvia

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five companies have applied to deliver 32 new electric trains to Latvia in a tender organized by passenger train operator Pasazieru Vilciens, local media reported Friday.

The five companies that had submitted their bids by the Oct. 30 deadline include Patentes Talgo S.L, Stadler Polska Sp. z o.o., Uralskie Lokomotivy, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. (CAF) and Skoda Vagonka.

Representatives of Pasazieru Vilciens said in a month's time the company would assess the bids and pick the candidates qualifying for the second round of the competition. In the second round, the candidates will be provided with a full list of technical requirements and given 75 days to submit their proposals.

Pasazieru Vilciens said it expected the winner of the tender to be announced in spring 2016. The winning company will be expected to supply the 32 trains with 400-450 seats, spare parts and maintenance equipment, as well as to train the Latvian company's staff to operate and maintain the trains.

LTV1 public TV channel reported earlier that Pasazieru Vilciens intended to spend about 200 million euros on the new commuter trains. Endit
