French household consumption stable in September

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

French household consumption of goods was unchanged in September after inching up by 0.1 percent a month earlier, official data showed on Friday.

At the end of last month, consumption of durable goods recorded a 1.4-percent rise, its best performance this year thanks to growing car purchases which gained 2.3 percent compared to 0.3 percent in August.

However, expenditure on food products lost ground for the third consecutive month after falling by 0.6 percent over the period, figures from national statistics agency Insee showed.

Energy consumption inched down by 0.1 percent as sharp decrease in domestic oil expenditure offset strong consumption of gas and electricity.

On quarterly basis, household consumption rose by 0.7 percent over the third quarter after it had fallen by 0.1 percent a quarter earlier. Endit
