Ireland sees 13.5 pct increase in overseas visits

There was an increase of 13.5 percent in overseas visits to Ireland for the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, according to official figures on Thursday.
The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that trips by residents of Britain increased by 13.9 percent while trips by residents of European countries other than Britain increased by 14.6 percent.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 12.3 percent while trips to Ireland from other areas increased by 10 percent, according to the CSO figures.
Irish Tourism Minister Paschal Donohoe said of the latest data that Ireland was on course for a record year in tourism.
"With only a couple of months left in 2015, today's figures confirm a very strong performance by Irish tourism with all of our main overseas markets continuing to show significant growth," he said. Endit
