India says wanted militant killed in Kashmir gunfight

Xinhua, October 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

A top militant commander heading Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) group in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir was killed Thursday in a gunfight with Indian military and police, officials said.

The gunfight broke out Wednesday evening when joint contingents of Indian military and police cordoned off village Khandaypora in district Kulgam, 68 km south of Srinagar city, summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Police officials said firing has stopped in the area and searches were going on to trace another militant.

Qasim was blamed for planning a deadly attack on an Indian military convoy in Udhampur on August 5, which killed two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and wounded 12 others. Endit
