Chile, Colombia to boost trade, cooperation

Visiting Chilean Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz met his Colombian counterpart Maria Angela Hulguin here Wednesday to discuss boosting trade and investment, as well as cooperation in energy, science and technology.

"The agenda includes a private meeting at the Foreign Minister's Office, during which the two sides are scheduled to discuss bilateral issues, the Pacific Alliance and issues of regional and international concerns," said an official statement of the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

Among the highlights of the talks were the Antarctic cooperation, with Colombia intending to establish a permanent scientific base in the Antarctic.

The two sides also discussed further cooperation in energy, technological and scientific fields and the establishment of a joint consular and immigration commission.

The Chilean government said it supported the ongoing peace process between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which aims to end a six-decade-long armed conflict.

Colombia and Chile raised their diplomatic relations to a strategic partnership in August 2011. Endi
