Portuguese parliament is set to vote on the program presented by the new center-right coalition government on Nov. 10 after the two-day debate, the leaders of the political parties in the parliament announced at a meeting on Wednesday.

The vote will take place after the debate which will be held on Nov. 9 and 10. The new minority coalition government led by reappointed Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho will be sworn in on Friday.

The main opposition Socialist Party (PS) led by Antonio Costa and two other leftist parties of the Left Bloc and the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), which make up a majority in parliament, have vowed to pass a motion to reject the program.

Portugal's largest trade union, the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP), has planned to stage a rally outside the parliament building on the day of the vote to urge the lawmakers to support them.

The coalition led by Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Passos Coelho and CDS-PP leader Paulo Portas won most votes in the Oct. 4 election and gained 107 seats in the 230-seat parliament but lost the 116-seat majority. The PS, the Left Bloc and PCP have 122 seats.

After the general election the PS has been locked in negotiations with the Left Bloc and the PCP for an alternative government.

According to the Portuguese Constitution, another general election will not be allowed within six months. Endit
