Xinhua, October 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hundreds of protesters from the political party, the Frontline Socialist Party (FLSP), on Wednesday demonstrated outside the U.S. embassy in the capital, urging the United States to lift economic blockage on Cuba and stop intervention in Syria.

The protesters who held placards stating "Stop genocide in Syria" and "Lift forthwith the blockade against Cuba' urged the U.S. authorities to act forthwith in maintaining peace in the world.

The protesters also shouted slogans alleging that the United States should stop intervention in Syria which is facing a civil conflict causing thousands of Syrian refugees to flee to Europe.

An effigy of U.S. President Barack Obama was set on fire during the protest.

"We want the United States to lift the economic blockade imposed on Cuba and also stop the violations in Syria. If we do not get a favorable answer, we will launch another protest in three weeks," an official from the FLSP told journalists.

The protest was held for over two hours which also led to security being tightened in the area and a severe blockage in traffic. Endit
