France "shocked" by earthquake's death toll in Afghanistan, Pakistan

France said shocked by the heavy death toll of the major earthquake which struck Afghanistan and Pakistan, leaving hundreds of victims, the country's foreign ministry reported on Tuesday.

"France extends its condolences to the victims' families. It reaffirms its solidarity with the Afghan, Pakistani and Indian people," the statement said.

French embassies in the region would continue to closely monitor developments in the situation, it added.

On Monday afternoon, a magnitude-7.5 earthquake hit the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan and sent shock waves to New Delhi in northern India. Endit
