The Macedonian Statistical Office announced on Tuesday that Macedonian exports doubled from 1.92 billion euros in 2006 to 3.72 billion euros (4.1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014 through the implementation of customs reforms and business climate improvement.
According to the Office, from 2006 to 2015, on the request of the business community, customs and trade barriers were reduced in several rounds. The effective customs rate was reduced to 1.75 percent, considered as one of the lowest levels in the region.
Customs duties that Macedonian importers pay now are 40 percent less compared to 2006. Import duties on over 100 articles, including various types of machinery and sugar reduced from 30 percent to 5 percent, cutting prices of many food products.
Another measure that facilitated Macedonian exports is the introduction of the Export-Import Licences (EXIM) e-Goverment Project for imports, exports and transit of goods, and the opening of all border crossings for imports and exports. Enditem
