Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The 1st Chinese Youth Games came to a successful close in the southern Chinese city of Fuzhou on Tuesday afternoon after 10 days of competition.

More than 7,900 athletes from 55 delegations competed in 305 events out of 26 sports in Fujian Province.

The Chinese Youth Games, previously the City Games, is a domestic version of the Olympic Youth Games, and it weighs education as important as competition.

During the sports gala, the athletes aged 13 to 21 not only staged high-quality competitions, but also attended various social and cultural activities.

Twelve national records were refreshed while promising stars emerged in swimming, soccer, basketball and athletics.

World champion shooter Yang Haoran stole the limelight by winning the 50m rifle three positions with a personal best, and even Yang met some challenge as he only managed a seventh in the 10m air rifle.

Young swimmers Chen Xinyi and Li Zhuhao collected three individual titles each and are widely considered future stars.

In basketball, Shen Zijie is a star already. With the height of 2.07m and the arm span of 2.20m, Shen is nicknamed "Chinese Bird" by his supporters.

Urumqi U16 team edged Guangzhou 2-1 for the men's soccer title in the biggest multi-sport games ever held in Fuzhou.

The 2nd Chinese Youth Olympics will be held in Taiyuan, capital city of Shanxi Province, in 2019. Endi
