HK-mainland trade slumps

Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Chinese mainland's trade with Hong Kong totaled 231.92 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months of 2015, down 11.5 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce announced Tuesday.

This accounts for 7.9 percent of the mainland's total overseas trade in the same period, the ministry figures showed.

The mainland's exports to Hong Kong hit 224.29 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of 11.5 percent year on year, while the mainland's imports from the region dropped 13.1 percent to 7.62 billion U.S. dollars.

Hong Kong is the mainland's fourth-largest trade partner and third-largest export market.

The mainland approved 9,355 Hong Kong-invested projects from January to September this year, with the actual use of Hong Kong capital hitting 64.72 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.9 percent from the same period last year.

As of the end of September 2015, 382,422 Hong Kong-invested projects had been approved by mainland authorities. Endi
